Encore un trio français qui vient percuter nos certitudes dépassées : oui, le rock et le metal français ont le vent en poupe et non, le rock et le metal ne sont pas des genres dépassés réservés aux clients d'Ehpad, qu'on se le dise ! C'est du côté obscur que nous attend Lux Incerta, cette lumière incertaine, plutôt porteuse de ténèbres, qui nous renvoie vers les meilleurs moments des Peaceville Three (Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride) avec un doom bien lourd et mortuaire, encore alourdi par un death metal aux riffs épais et des growls hargneux qui viennent se confronter à des vocaux mélodiques et mélancoliques de toute beauté. L'ambiance gothique du disque est parfaitement rendue sur la belle pochette signée Marianne Blanchard. Sept titres (dont le premier dépasse les 15 minutes !) d'un doom/death mélodique et puissant, lourd et éthéré à la fois, ce qui n'est pas un mince exploit...
Le groupe a eu l'intelligence d'adjoindre à sa formule chant/guitare/basse/batterie des parties de piano, violoncelles et de superbes orchestrations qui viennent magnifier encore l'ensemble. Des passages minimalistes, guitare sèche/chant nous rappelle l'Anathema de la grande époque, avant d'être suivis de riffs dignes d'un My Dying Bride au mieux de son humeur morbide. Rien que ce premier titre fascinant, "Far Beyond The Black Skies" vaut le prix d'achat de l'album tant il fait preuve de créativité, de richesse, sans jamais en faire trop. Une fois digéré ce beau pavé qui vous scotche au plafond de par sa grâce et sa puissance (ces voix angéliques à la fin !) vient le temps d'un "Dying Sun" plus rapide et violent, penchant volontiers au début du côté death, avant d'être rattrapé par une pesanteur doom du meilleur acabit. Il semble difficile de pratiquer ce genre précis de doom sans rappeler de glorieux aînés, et pourtant Lux Incerta, sans complexes, impose sa patte sur un genre certes codifié mais que le groupe français arrive à faire sien. Pas de droit à l'erreur en matière de death/doom, mais Lux Incerta l'a bien compris, et ce "Dark Odyssey" qui porte bien son nom nous transporte littéralement dans une religiosité sombre, une solennité profonde.
Si vous étiez en manque de death/doom aux reflets gothiques et d'une musique incarnée, lourde, puissante, poétique et mélodique, alors Lux Incerta est là pour vous !

Yet another French trio that comes and shatters our outdated certainties: yes, French rock and metal are on the rise and no, rock and metal are not outdated genres reserved for elderly people, let's face it! It's on the dark side that Lux Incerta awaits us, this uncertain light, rather carrying darkness, which sends us back to the best moments of the Peaceville Three (Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride) with a heavy and mortal doom, still weighed down by a death metal with thick riffs and snarling growls which come to confront melodic and melancholic vocals of any beauty. The gothic atmosphere of the record is perfectly rendered on the beautiful cover by Marianne Blanchard. Seven tracks (the first of which exceeds 15 minutes!) of a melodic and powerful doom/death, heavy and ethereal at the same time, which is no mean feat...
The band had the intelligence to add to its formula of vocals/guitar/bass/drums, piano parts, cellos and superb orchestrations which further magnify the whole. Minimalist passages, dry guitar/vocals remind us of the Anathema of the great era, before being followed by riffs worthy of a My Dying Bride at its best. This fascinating first track alone, "Far Beyond The Black Skies", is worth the purchase price of the album as it shows creativity and richness without ever overdoing it. Once digested, this beautiful pavement that glues you to the ceiling with its grace and power (those angelic voices at the end!) comes the time of a faster and more violent "Dying Sun", leaning at the beginning on the death side, before being overtaken by a doom heaviness of the best kind. It seems difficult to practice this precise genre of doom without reminding glorious elders, and yet Lux Incerta, without any complexes, imposes its mark on a genre that is certainly codified but that the French band manages to make its own. There's no room for error in death/doom, but Lux Incerta understood it well, and this "Dark Odyssey", which bears its name well, literally transports us into a dark religiosity, a deep solemnity.
