Jacob ? Il faut plutôt les appeler par leur vrai nom : Jaypee and The Cannibal Orgasmic Band ! Les lyonnais entourent Jaypee-Jaypar, musicien au coeur rock et blues qui propose avec ce "Metamorphosis" un joli disque à apprécier à sa juste valeur...
Aujourd'hui c'est jour d'élection, alors, si ce soir ou dans quinze jours vous avez trop le blues, il se pourrait bien que le disque de Jacob soit la solution à vos problèmes. Solitude, tristesse, et une certaine mystique particulière (voir la pochette digne d'un black sabbath) peuvent rapprocher le combo du Doom, d'autant que certaines parties de guitares se font plutôt lourdes, mais Jacob n'est pas un groupe de Metal, c'est un groupe de blues rock. On pense ça et là à Nick Cave (la voix grave et l'ambiance de whisky frelaté façon western gothic) mais le disque, varié, à le mérite de surprendre de titre en titre. Dix titres au compteur pour un plaisir toujours renouvelé, avec un titre plutôt rythmé et velu comme "I'm coming For You", un surprenant "The Loser Song" aux couleurs acoustiques, entre Western et musique des balkans à la Kusturica, un "Son Of A Bitch" bien blues, avec un quelque chose de Johnny Cash ou de Tom Waits.
Bref, Jaydee et sa bande nous régalent avec une musique authentique, parfois musclée, parfois plus mélodique ou atmosphérique, avec des rocks à la limite du hard, mais aussi des influences variées qui renouvelent un bagage blues qui aurait pu avoir un côté trop traditionnel. Une belle surprise !

Today is election day, so if you're feeling too blue tonight or in a couple of weeks, Jacob's record might just be the solution to your problems. Loneliness, sadness, and a certain mysticism (see the black sabbath-like cover) can bring the combo closer to Doom, especially since some of the guitar parts are rather heavy, but Jacob is not a Metal band, it's a blues rock band. One thinks here and there of Nick Cave (the deep voice and the atmosphere of adulterated whisky in a western gothic style) but the record, varied, has the merit of surprising from title to title. Ten tracks on the counter for an always renewed pleasure, with a rather rhythmic and hairy track like "I'm coming For You", a surprising "The Loser Song" with acoustic colours, between Western and Balkan music "a la Kusturica", a very bluesy "Son Of A Bitch", with something of Johnny Cash or Tom Waits.
In short, Jaydee and his band treat us with an authentic music, sometimes muscular, sometimes more melodic or atmospheric, with rocks at the limit of hard, but also varied influences that renew a blues baggage that could have been too traditional. A nice surprise!
